About
Bangkok Kunsthalle invites you to the final performance of "ล้อมวง (Surrounded)" by artists-in-residence elekhlekha. This unique audiovisual experience takes place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with doors opening at 7:00 PM for an opening reception, and the performance beginning at 8:00 PM.
The project is the culmination of extensive research-based immersive audiovisual practice by Nitcha Tothong and Kengchakaj, in collaboration with Thai traditional instrumentalists Kanta Kantaphong and Matas Masungsong, and jazz drummer Pitchaon Kanajaroen. The final performance also features lighting design by Voratorn Peerapongpan.
Expect an unconventional setup with no stage and no fixed seating. Generative, audio-reactive visuals will move across the floor beneath the audience's feet. At the heart of the experience is a prepared Yamaha DC3X Disklavier Grand Piano, specially tuned to evoke the rich resonance of Southeast Asian sound cultures.
The performance utilizes a custom spatial audio system with a sixteen-channel speaker array, extending the logic of an ensemble into the space. Like a Southeast Asian gong ensemble, sound is distributed across multiple voices, with melody, rhythm, and agency shared between players, instruments, speakers, and the audience.
